Dr. Svetlana Atanasova Velizarova is a pediatric pulmonologist and academic with decades of experience in pediatric tuberculosis, pneumology, and phthisiology. She earned her medical degree from the Medical University of Sofia and later specialized in pneumology, phthisiology, and pediatrics. She has held academic and clinical positions at leading children’s hospitals in Sofia and served as an assistant professor. Her research focuses on childhood tuberculosis, latent TB infection, diagnostic methods, BCG vaccination, and chronic lung diseases. She has authored over 80 scientific publications, received national and EU-funded grants, and is an active member of major European and international respiratory and tuberculosis research networks.
