Board, Allahabad. With a strong inclination toward the sciences, he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Zoology, Botany, and Chemistry from Kumaun University, Nainital, graduating with distinction in 1987. His passion for botany led him to complete his Master’s degree in the same field by 1989, further culminating in a Ph.D. in Botany in 1992. His doctoral research focused on the Taxonomy and Ecology of Epiphytic Pteridophytes in the Kumaun Himalayas, a pioneering study in plant taxonomy and ecology.
