🌿 DR. SHREEKAR PANT: A LEGACY IN BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION

📚 EARLY ACADEMIC PURSUITS

Pant Shreekar, born on 02-01-1980 in India, embarked on his academic journey with a B.Sc. from Kumaun University, Nainital in 1999, where he secured a first division with 60% in Zoology, Botany, and Chemistry. This laid the foundation for his pursuit of higher education, earning a Master’s degree in Botany (2001) with a 67% score. He went on to achieve his Ph.D. in Botany from Kumaun University in 2005. His doctoral research focused on the Assessment of Plant Diversity and Ethnobotany of Mornaula Reserve Forest in the Kumaun region of the West Himalayas.

🧪 PROFESSIONAL ENDEAVORS

Dr. Pant currently serves as the Coordinator at the Centre for Biodiversity Studies in the School of Biosciences and Biotechnology at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, Jammu & Kashmir, India. He has played a pivotal role in advancing biodiversity research and conservation efforts in the Himalayan region. His professional expertise includes the study of biodiversity patterns, conservation strategies, and climate change impacts on Himalayan ecosystems.

Dr. Pant‘s contributions to biodiversity research have been transformative. His work focuses on biodiversity patterns in relation to conservation status, elevational gradients, and habitat heterogeneity. He is particularly known for his innovative methods to calculate the Conservation Priority Index (CPI) for species and communities in the Kashmir Himalayas, using the Gulmarg Wildlife Sanctuary as a case study. His research highlights critical plant species such as Buxus wallichiana and Taxus baccata, both endangered species crucial to the region’s ecological health. His ongoing work focuses on climate change impacts on Himalayan biodiversity.
