He earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry in 2011 from the University of Mysore, conducting his research at the Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore. His Ph.D. thesis focused on “Mapping of Amyloidogenic Peptides Induced Neuronal Cell Death” under the guidance of Dr. K.S. Jagannatha Rao. Further enhancing his expertise, Dr. Ramesh pursued a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Mahidol University, Thailand, from June 2011 to May 2012, where he delved deeper into neuroscience research.

   Professional Experience

Dr. Ramesh B.N. began his professional journey as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Mahidol University, Thailand, from June 2011 to May 2012. He then served as an Assistant Professor at Jain University, Bangalore, from June 2012 to August 2013. In September 2013, he joined the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, as an Assistant Professor (Grade-II) in the ICAR-AICRP on Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology, a position he holds to date. Throughout his career, Dr. Ramesh has been actively involved in teaching and research, focusing on plant biotechnology and neuroscience. His dedication to academia is evident in his extensive publication record and successful acquisition of research grants.

 Awards and Recognition 

Dr. Ramesh B.N. has been honored with several prestigious awards throughout his career. In 2019, he received the Award for Research Publication from the Government of Karnataka, which included a medal and a cash prize of ₹25,000. In 2018, he was granted the International Travel Award by the Science and Engineering Research Board, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to attend the 15th Annual Meeting of the ASEAN Pacific Society for Neurochemistry in Macau, China. During the same event, he was bestowed with the Young Investigator Award by the ASEAN Pacific Society for Neurochemistry. Additionally, Dr. Ramesh received travel grants from the International Brain Research Organization to attend conferences in Japan (2018) and Australia (2015). His contributions to neuroscience were further recognized with the NSS National Young Leader Award for 2015-16 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, New Delhi, awarded in 2017.

His work primarily focuses on neurodegeneration, particularly Alzheimer’s disease, investigating natural molecules that prevent beta-amyloid production and aggregation. Dr. Ramesh has successfully led research projects funded by esteemed agencies such as the Science and Engineering Research Board and the National Agriculture Science Fund – Indian Council of Agriculture Research. His expertise extends to prospecting novel antimicrobial peptides and developing synthetic anti-microbial peptide hydrogels for bovine mastitis.
